Ryerson University Central Library / Besse Learning Commons Donor Wall

Centrally located within the University Campus, the existing library occupies eight levels within the multi-storey Jorgenson Hall building.

Centrally located within the University Campus, the existing library occupies eight levels within the multi-storey Jorgenson Hall building. The receipt of a $1 million donation and additional University funding, allowed for the complete redesign of the Library. As a tribute to the generosity of the donating alumnus, a large-scale mural was designed for the pedestrian walk through in the centre of the Learning Commons. The design of the mural traces the history of Ronald Besse with the intent of graphically highlighting the interests and influences that affected his rise to business success and philanthropy. The interior signage program puts information at key circulation points incorporating digital screens to communicate with the students and users. The selection of materials for the signs were chosen to have a lasting- durability and remain maintenance-free in the high-traffic area they are positioned in.
